Check out some of the cool things I've made!

About Me

Nick Renda

Product Design Engineer

I'm currently working at Apple, in the Mac Product Design group. In my spare time I enjoy running, traveling, listening to music (I'm a self-proclaimed audiophile), and occasionally scuba diving.

Here's what I've been up to

I designed the speakers and microphones in the 2018 MacBook Air.

UC Berkeley

I led a research group that investigates flywheel energy storage systems in electric vehicles. I was also a member of the Formula SAE for two years where I designed and validated parts for a racecar suspension system.

As an intern I helped solve an audio performance issue in the 2015 Retina iMacs, and 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar.

Tesla Motors

On the Propulsion Systems team at Tesla I solved reliability issues in the motors by redesigning production parts and running validation tests. I also designed a mount and shield to safely measure expansion of rotors during spin testing.

Lockheed Martin

As part of the Structures and Mechanisms team for the SBIRS satellite, I drafted several concepts to resolve a critical failure on a contamination door, and developed one into a working model for procurement.

I developed the controls and piping layout for an iron-chrome flow battery, and performed flow and leak tests on prototype battery cells. I also contributed to the piping and instrumentation diagrams for the overall system.
